Should White House Christmas Tree be Renamed?
D-Source
Some believe the White House Christmas Tree should be renamed the White House Holiday Tree or some other more religeously neutral name. The reasoning is that the United States of America, while still a primarily Christian Nation, is now home to people of most every major religeon in the entire world. There are those who are Athiest or of other faiths that complain about it being called a Christmas Tree. Now, many Christians are getting fired up about the possibility of the renaming of this tree and they are ready to launch huge protests. Well, here is what I have to say to my fellow Christians:
It is common knowledge that our nation was founded on Christian Values. But let’s not forget that our Lord cautioned us against engaging in concern for, discussion of, debate on and argument about issues of little spiritual importance. Examles include: What is God’s name. God says he will be called by many names, but he is still God, just like you are still you, even if I call you by another name. Another example would be what color Jesus is. And yet another example would be what we call a tree with lights. Rather we call a tree with lights a Christmas Tree or an Oak Tree or a Fig Tree, has no relevance to the main point, which is our salvation through our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ; who will still be our Savior, regardless of what we name that tree. The Devil, who has dominion over Earthly and Fleshly things, loves to get whole nations in an uproar, in political discussion, debate and protest over spiritually meaningless things, such as what we call a tree. He laughs as these types of issues occupy valuable time, mental space and maybe even resources that would be better spent saving souls or going about the work of God, such as educating our youth, ending wars, feeding the hungry and so on. In my humble opinion; we should pick our battles with care and take care not to get sucked into battles that will not save one single soul and that will not save one single life, educate one single child, improve our economy or even benefit the cause of God, in any meaningful way. But it will consume time and devide people and occupy valuable mental space that could be spent on something that really matters. In my humble opinion, let them call the tree whatever they want to. If calling it a Christmas Tree devides people, then change the name, if it helps us remain united. And if it helps us to remain united, as a nation, then I suspect God, who is not hindered by the fleshly ego trips we are subseptible to, will be happy with the result. He will not be upset. The Holy Sprit that dwells in me, tells me that God would gladly give up the name of a tree, if the result is the ending of or the prevention of useless bickering over the name of that tree.
